Sporting Expenses
Equipment to participate in logger sports is expensive. Axes and saws are specially hand forged for racing purposes. Axes can range from $600-$900 and saws begin at $3,000. A typical weekend wood chopping would cost $100 in entry fees, $100 in travel, $200 in accommodation and $100 towards equipment either new gear or repairs to old equipment. This equates to $6,000-$10,000 per year to compete around New Zealand in the normal season.
